The Perse School, Cambridge

The Project

The installation comprises 48 high-efficiency AIKO Neostar 2S 460W all-black solar panels connected through a SolarEdge 20 kW three-phase inverter. The system was engineered around the available roof space and the building’s three-phase electrical infrastructure to create a dependable source of on-site renewable electricity.

Greenio designed and installed a 22.08 kWp commercial solar PV system for The Perse School in Cambridge. Installed on the school’s pre-school building, the project forms part of a wider commitment to sustainability and improving the environmental performance of the education estate.

The Customer

Greenio designed the installation around the building and its electrical infrastructure rather than applying a standard solar package. Positioning the system on a building used by younger pupils also makes renewable energy visible within the school environment, helping turn sustainability from an abstract idea into something pupils, staff and visitors can see in practice.

The school wanted the project to provide practical renewable generation while also supporting its wider sustainability objectives. Educational buildings can be particularly well suited to solar PV because significant electricity demand occurs during daylight hours, creating opportunities for solar electricity to be consumed directly on site.

The Customer Said...

This was about putting sustainability into practice. Having solar on the building means renewable energy is part of the school itself, not just something discussed in theory, and that was an important part of the project for us

Where Are They Now

The completed 22.08 kWp solar PV installation has turned previously unused roof space into a renewable electricity-generating asset for the school. With 48 high-efficiency solar panels operating through a three-phase SolarEdge inverter, the system provides clean electricity directly to the education estate.

Battery storage was not required as part of this project. For a school with meaningful daytime electricity consumption, using solar generation directly within the building can provide an effective route to reducing grid reliance and operational carbon emissions while visibly demonstrating the organisation’s environmental commitments.
