Commercial Solar
Finance & Funding
Invest in better energy. Fund it the right way.
How Finance Works
Investing in commercial solar PV, battery storage and EV charging can reduce energy costs, improve energy resilience and help your organisation meet its sustainability goals.
But finding the right way to fund that investment can be just as important as choosing the right technology.
At Greenio, we believe a lack of available capital shouldn't automatically mean putting a good renewable energy project on hold.
We can review finance options with you, and with the support of the TLS Energy Group can offer PPA finance for selected projects of 20kW and above.

Commercial Solar Finance Options
Every business and every project is different.
That's why we don't believe in starting with the finance product.
We start by understanding your energy requirements and designing the right renewable energy solution.
Once we understand the opportunity, we can explore the most appropriate way of delivering it.
Outright Purchase
Invest directly in your commercial solar PV system and retain ownership of the asset and the financial benefit of the electricity it generates.
For organisations with available capital, outright purchase can offer an attractive long-term return while reducing exposure to future grid electricity costs.
Commercial Finance
Commercial finance can allow you to spread the cost of solar PV, battery storage or EV charging over an agreed period rather than committing significant capital upfront.
This can help preserve working capital while allowing your organisation to start benefiting from its renewable energy investment.
Power Purchase Agreement
In a Power Purchase Agreement – or PPA – a third party installs solar panels on your roof at no cost to you, allowing you to purchase the panels’ generation at a price much lower than electricity from the grid.
For selected projects, we can offer PPA financing from the TLS Energy Group.
Grants & Alternative Funding
Depending on your organisation, location and type of project, there may be funding opportunities available.
We'll help you understand the technical requirements of your project and explore the different routes that could make it possible.
Not Sure Where to Start?
You don't need to understand every finance product, grant programme or PPA structure before speaking to us.
That's our job.
Tell us about your organisation, property, electricity consumption and what you're trying to achieve.
We'll look at the energy opportunity first and then discuss the different ways the project could potentially be delivered.
Let's find out what it could do for you.
Your Questions, Answered
How can my business install commercial solar panels without a large upfront investment?
Businesses do not always need to fund a commercial solar PV installation through existing capital reserves. Depending on the project, Greenio can explore a range of commercial solar finance options, including asset finance, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Energy as a Service (EaaS).
These funding structures can reduce or potentially remove the initial capital requirement, allowing your business to benefit from lower energy costs while preserving cash for core operations and growth.
The right solution depends on factors including your electricity consumption, available roof or land space, project size, energy price and investment objectives. Greenio can model the expected energy savings, payback period and return on investment (ROI) to help you assess the commercial case.
What is a solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and how can it benefit my business?
A commercial solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) can allow a business to benefit from solar-generated electricity without purchasing the solar PV system outright.
Under a typical PPA structure, an external provider funds the solar installation and the business purchases the electricity generated by the system at an agreed rate under a long-term agreement.
For suitable businesses, this can provide access to lower-cost renewable electricity without upfront expenditure, while also improving energy price visibility and reducing exposure to future electricity market volatility.
Greenio can assess your site's electricity consumption and solar generation potential to determine whether a commercial solar PPA could provide a strong financial and operational case.
What is Energy as a Service (EaaS) and how does it work for commercial renewable energy?
Energy as a Service (EaaS) provides businesses with an alternative way to implement energy technologies without necessarily purchasing all of the equipment upfront.
Depending on the agreement, an EaaS solution can incorporate technologies such as commercial solar PV, battery energy storage and other energy-efficiency measures, with costs structured around an agreed service or energy arrangement.
For businesses focused on protecting working capital, EaaS can provide a route towards reducing energy costs and carbon emissions while avoiding substantial initial capital expenditure.
Greenio takes an engineering-led approach, assessing your site's energy profile before recommending whether EaaS, a PPA, commercial finance or outright purchase offers the most appropriate financial return.
Is it better to buy or finance a commercial solar PV system?
This depends on your company's available capital, cost of borrowing, energy consumption and required return on investment.
Purchasing commercial solar outright can often provide an attractive long-term financial return because, once installed, your business benefits directly from the electricity generated by the system.
However, commercial solar finance can allow you to retain capital within the business while still benefiting from reduced electricity costs. A PPA or EaaS arrangement may also be appropriate where reducing or avoiding upfront CAPEX is a priority.
Rather than looking solely at the installation price, Greenio can compare the projected payback period, annual energy savings, cash flow and long-term ROI of the available options, helping your business make an informed investment decision.
What return on investment can a business expect from commercial solar panels?
The ROI from commercial solar panels varies significantly between businesses and should be calculated using the individual site's energy consumption, electricity tariff, available installation area and expected solar generation.
Businesses that consume a high proportion of their electricity during daylight hours can be particularly well suited to commercial solar because more of the electricity generated can be used directly on site, reducing the amount purchased from the grid.
Greenio designs commercial solar projects around financial performance as well as energy generation. Our proposals can assess projected annual generation, electricity savings, system costs and expected payback to provide your business with a clear commercial case before making an investment decision.
The objective isn't simply to install as many solar panels as possible – it's to design a system that delivers the right commercial return for your business.
Can commercial solar and battery storage reduce my business's energy costs?
Yes. A correctly designed commercial solar PV and battery storage system can help businesses reduce their reliance on grid electricity and gain greater control over when and how energy is used.
Solar PV can generate electricity during the day, while commercial battery storage can potentially capture surplus generation for use at another time. Depending on the site's electricity profile, battery storage may also support strategies such as tariff optimisation and peak-demand management.
However, adding a battery does not automatically improve the financial return of every commercial solar project. Greenio analyses your consumption patterns and energy requirements to determine whether battery storage strengthens the business case.
Our focus is on designing a commercial renewable energy solution that delivers measurable energy savings, an appropriate payback period and a strong long-term ROI, rather than adding equipment that doesn't provide sufficient financial value.
