How do you design a commercial solar PV system?
A successful commercial solar PV installation starts with understanding the site and how the business actually uses electricity.
We assess factors including electricity consumption and load profiles, available roof or ground space, structural considerations, shading, electrical infrastructure, grid connection, future expansion and the potential integration of battery storage and commercial EV charging.
Rather than filling the available roof with panels, the aim is to engineer a system around your operational requirements and commercial objectives, offering a strong return on investment.
What return can a business expect from commercial solar panels?
The financial performance of a commercial solar PV system depends heavily on how much of the electricity generated can be consumed on site.
Businesses with significant daytime electricity demand are often particularly well suited to solar because generation can directly offset electricity that would otherwise be purchased from the grid.

For more complex projects, solar PV, battery storage and EV charging need to be considered together with the site's electrical infrastructure and grid connection from an early stage. This integrated approach can avoid expensive changes later in the project.
Can commercial battery storage reduce our business electricity costs?
Potentially. Commercial battery storage can perform several different roles depending on the site's electricity profile and the way the system is designed.
A battery can store surplus solar generation for later use, increase solar self-consumption and, with suitable controls and tariffs, potentially charge when electricity is cheaper for use during more expensive periods.
The important part is correctly sizing and modelling the battery. Bigger isn't automatically better – the system should be based on the site's consumption profile, solar generation, grid connection and intended operating strategy.
Can you install EV charging for employees, customers and company fleets?
Yes. Commercial EV charging can be designed for workplaces, employee parking, visitors, customers and electric vehicle fleets.
Before specifying chargers, we consider the site's available electrical capacity, expected number of vehicles, charging patterns, future expansion and whether solar PV or battery storage could support the charging demand.
For larger installations, intelligent load management can be particularly important, helping manage charging demand against the electrical capacity available to the site.
What happens after our commercial solar PV system has been installed?
Commissioning shouldn't be the end of a commercial solar project.
Following installation, the system should be properly handed over so the people responsible for the building understand how to operate, monitor and manage the solar PV, battery storage or EV charging system.
